A Place Called Chiapas is a Canadian documentary of first-hand accounts of the Ejercito Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (EZLN) the (Zapatista Army of National Liberation or Zapatistas) and the lives of its soldiers and the people for whom they fight. Director Nettie Wildtakes the viewer to rebel territory in the south west Mexican state of Chiapas, where the EZLN live and evade the Mexican Army.
Die Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (EZLN, deutsch: „Zapatistische Armee der Nationalen Befreiung“) ist eine überwiegend aus Indigenas bestehende Guerillaorganisation in Chiapas, einem der ärmsten Bundesstaaten Mexikos, die am 1. Januar 1994 mit einem bewaffneten Aufstand erstmals öffentlich in Erscheinung trat und sich seitdem mit politischen Mitteln für die Rechte der indigenen Bevölkerung Mexikos, aber auch generell gegen neoliberale Politik und für autonome Selbstverwaltung einsetzt.
